my piece 'reclamation' is on display for the month of June!

intention of my work:

the energy of joy comes easy to me. i find playfulness, whimsy, and awe in the world around me almost every day. but i've had to permission and allow myself to express it. my joy has been stifled and censored by others for so long and i'm still learning how to show my joy unapologetically. there's a tension between the immense amount of joy i feel and the masking (i'm AuDHD) i've had to do to subdue my expression of it so that i am more palatable to others around me. this piece is about how my joy has felt suppressed and is trying to move through me in ways that are more easeful. this piece is about not giving my joy (and power) away. my joy is not dependent on others' acceptance of it.

this is a reclamation, but an imperfect one.

artist bio: 

ashley hunt (she/they/fae) is a creative writer, artist, and educator. they are a reader of cards + stars and a mother of cats + plants. fae is a neurodivergent Sapphic Queer, a vegetarian, and an all-around whimsical weirdo. they helped co-found the Anti-Cap(italism) Club to encourage barter, trade, and mutual aid. she runs the Queer Magic community group and Art is Magic workshop series at Illuminations. @ah_alchemy @untitled_memoir
